Geepers creepers, Blinkin' Jimmy and I'll go to the bottom of our stairs !

Picked up the Western Mail last Wednesday and read Rhodri Morgan's 'essay' on the Welsh Conservatives and why, in his estimation, Welsh Labour is right for Wales because of what he seems to interpret as their almost 'divine right to rule' because the Conservatives have never enjoyed a majority in Wales.

I would guess that most Labour Party members and activists would hope and expect that a dynamic leader would put together an 'eve of conference' speech which is both upbeat and positive - and not have to be presented with yet another one of RM's 'yawnosaurus megaborathon rants' - the like of which we are all too familiar with in the Assembly Chamber.

It was interesting to note that whilst RM went on a lot about William Hague and John Redwood,
he failed to mention Tony Blair.

Over the last few days I have been out and about within my region and the message on the doorstep is clear and it is something which I have not heard since Conservatives experienced a landslide defeat in 1997................

The people are angry and they want the Government out.

Many people I met said that they had never been particularly 'galvanised' by Assembly elections - Mr. Morgan may know that many in the northernmost part of Mid & West Wales struggle to see precisely what the Welsh Labour Government in the Assembly has achieved for them - however, they imparted that they would definitely be turning out on May 3rd to vote for a change.

Meanwhile Plaid's Elfyn Llwyd told us on BBC's Dragon's Eye last night that they would not serve in a coalition led by a Conservative First Minister. Nothing new there, however when the presenter pressed him on whether or not Plaid would be happy to go into coalition with Labour (a likely scenario as Labour are predicted to lose seats), he rambled on about Labour's unfulfilled promises and failed to answer the question.

Plaid of course have a socialist constitution (a fact which escapes many of their more right wing members in rural Wales), whilst many within their political ranks already seem to think that their natural home is within Welsh Labour.

As our venerable Presiding Officer might say : this is of course a matter for Plaid Cymru, but I do think the people of Wales have a right to know who Plaid are seeking to 'aid and abet' before they cast their vote in this forthcoming Welsh General Election.
